The LargeScaleRC.com Power Jam 2011 was a huge success!  With excellent weather, friendly people, and lots of fun and excitement, the event went into the books as one of the largest and best large scale R/C events ever organized. The event created quite a media frenzy as well.  There were live webcam feeds from RCLargescale.com, a representative / writer from R/C Driver magazine, Mark Hull from LargeScaleNews.com, and lots of photo and video uploads from the participants to the various forums that support 1/5 scale.  R/C enthousiasts from all over the United States and a few from abroad came to participate, bringing their 1/5 scale cars to represent car manufacturers like HPI, MCD, FG, Nutech, Redcat, and others.  With a fully stocked hobby shop on site and support from the manufacturers in attendance, racers and bashers had all of the parts and know-how necessary to keep their cars in tip-top shape and ready for action.   

 

There were 4 permenant tracks constructed for the event at the LargeScaleRC.com business complex.  Two of the tracks were designed for competition use with computerized scoring and the other 2 tracks were designed for non-competition use and bashing.  The main off-road competition track features a high-speed lane that wraps around 3/4 of the outer perimeter of the track and then turns into a series of double and triple jump sections with sweeping turns and a few high-banks before entering the front straight with a huge jump at the start / finish line.  The competition oval track is actually 2 tracks in one!  Of course, there is the 480' high-speed oval with mild banking in the corners, but in the center of the oval is a figure 8 crossing with a cross-over jump!  The oval races were exciting, but the figure 8 jump races were full of thrills and spills.  If the jumping car didn't have enough speed to clear the crossing lane, then there was a good chance for an ugly collision.  Surprisingly, there weren't many cars damaged from the cross-over related crashes.  The non-competition tracks consist of a mild roadcourse with no jumps and a football field sized extreme action track.  The extreme track was designed by the LargeScaleRC staff to challenge all who enter the labrynth of terror. The extreme track offer huge jumps, long straight aways, a squeeze section, a monster tabletop, tire barriers, a grind rail section, and even a water hazard jump.  The unique thing about the non-competition tracks is that they are connected and can be driven as one track that measures almost 1/2 mile in driving distance per lap!  The non-competition tracks were open all day to all of the participants to play on.
